The Drakes Dish is a traditional form of English silver, inspired by the celebrated Armada dishes. Its timeless design makes it a versatile piece—equally suited to use as a display dish, a presentation piece, or as a Christening or Anniversary gift.
A unique and beautifully crafted example of late 20th-century British silver, offering both collectability and lasting elegance.
Brian Leslie Fuller was a respected modern British silversmith, working mainly during the second half of the 20th century. His pieces are highly regarded by collectors because of both their quality and their rarity compared to larger firms such as Garrard or Asprey.
The “Glis Gliss” mark is Fuller’s unique maker’s mark, sometimes described as a personal emblem or signature. It often appears alongside standard British hallmarks (lion passant, date letter, assay office mark, etc.) and is a useful identifier for confirming authenticity of his work.
-
“Glis Gliss” is Latin for dormouse – a playful reference Fuller adopted as his personal symbol.
-
It is stamped on the base of some of his pieces (such as Drakes/Armada dishes, bowls, and small presentation items).
-
Collectors recognise it as a guarantee of originality and fine craftsmanship.
Because Fuller’s silver was not mass-produced, items bearing the “Glis Gliss” mark are increasingly sought after, especially when in superb condition and with clear hallmarks.
